Arirang News - Exports of automobiles to Eastern Europe nearly doubled in the first quarter compared to the same period last year.
According to industry reports released on Wednesday, non-European Union nations on the continent imported some 72,000 Korean cars, up 93 percent on-year.
Russia accounted for 82 percent of the total, much higher than other countries in the region such as Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
Kia Motors was the largest exporter with 42 percent or 30,000 units, half of which were the Pride compact.
GM Korea was next with 22,000 units, while Hyundai Motors ranked third with 11,000 as it now produces cars for the region from its plant in St. Petersburg, Russia.
