AFP (Bratislava) - South Korean carmaker Kia Motors said on Tuesday that it had raised output by 10 per cent at its Slovak plant last year, assembling more than 252,000 cars on the heels of 229,500 in 2010.
'The company plans to continue raising its output to make 285,000 cars this year,' Kia said in a press release.
Last year, Kia, which employs 3,900 people in the central European country, also built 359,000 engines at its plant near Zilina, northern Slovakia, 12 per cent more than in 2010.
The Slovak plant that makes the Kia cee'd, Kia Sportage and Kia Venga models exports 98 per cent of its production, mostly to Russia, Great Britain and Germany.
Auto production is the driving economic force in Slovakia, which is also home to plants run by the German Volkswagen and PSA Peugeot Citroen of France.
