SsangYong Returns to China Depending on Pangda Automobile Trade after the Failure with SAIC

Recently, SsangYong has announced 3 new models would be brought in China and one of them is the 2014 Korando entry model, whose price is only 139.8 thousand Yuan. It has become the cheapest import model in Chinese auto market. Besides lower price strategy, the sales of SsangYong in China are authorized exclusively to Pangda Automobile Trade, which is the leading enterprise of Chinese automobile dealers. It was known that SsangYong chose 2 dealers, Pangda in North and SCAS in south, after the termination of cooperation with SAIC. Last year, Pangda SsangYong from Pangda had purchased SCAS Nanhua from SCAS becoming the sole SsangYong distributor in China. The vice director of SsangYong Korean said, “We think the strategy and idea of Pangda is much more correct after assessment so the acquisition happened.”

The general manager of Pangda SsangYong said there are totally 84 dealers in China and 59 of them are established by Pangda, “We have 2 strategies for next step, one is establishment by Pangda and the other is alliance. There will be 30 more by the end of this year and 60 by the end of next year, totally 110 dealers this year and 170 dealers next year.

In accordance with Pangda SsangYong’ plans Chinese market will be largest overseas market in next 2 to 3 years instead of Russia. SsangYong plans to develop more new models in brands of Korando, Rexton, and New Rodius to meet the requirement of Chinese customers.
