Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Jan 14th)– According to China’s Passenger Car Association, the adjustments and changes in the brand structure of imported cars in China have continued to deepen in 2015. BMW and Mercedes-Benz of the first group maintained their places of gold and silver while brand ranking in the second group underwent great changes.
Wang Cun, Vice director of China Automobile Dealers Association, said Mercedes-Benz and Porches were the only 2 brands who saw import growth in 2015 with an increase of 3.4% and 11.2% respectively. Other brands, including Land Rover, Jeep, VW, Audi and Subaru, all decreased their imports in China last year for at least 30%. To be noted, the number of imported Land Rover and Audi in China has decreased 44.2% and 41.3% respectively.
Throughout 2015, Lexus stepped forward to be the 3rd biggest import auto brand in China, Jeep still held its place of No.4 while Porsche jumped to the 5th place from No.10, boosted by the sales of its Cayenne SUVs. Meanwhile, VW fell to the 8th place from No.5 in 2015.
Wang Cunsaidthe monthly auto imports in China all plummeted to fell below expectation since the 3rd quarter of 2014, contributed by the high inventory and slowing down demands in Chinese market. “In 2015, European brands, other than Japanese and American brands, have contributed as the main driver of China’s auto import. Besides, the imports of the 3 most popular vehicle types in China all decreased, especially the sedans and SUVs.”
