GAINS AND LOSSES: Toyota's global production declined 1.3 percent to 672,604 vehicles in September, dragged down by Europe and North America.
BIG EUROPE SWING: Toyota's decline is its first in 12 months, due in part to the closure of a California joint venture with General Motors Co. in April. North American output fell 4.1 percent, while Europe slid 29.7 percent year over year.
RIVALS GAIN: Strong demand in China lifted production at rivals Honda, which saw a 9.2 percent increase during the month to 328,368 vehicles, and Nissan, which produced 395,658 vehicles, up 27.2 percent.
