Associated Press (Tokyo) - Toyota Motor Corp. says it will invest $200 million to boost auto production in Indonesia on the back of rising regional demand.

Toyota said Wednesday it would lift annual production capacity by 40 percent by early 2013 at its Karawang plant — Toyota’s only auto factory in Indonesia.

With the investment of 16.5 billion yen ($200 million), Toyota will be able to make 140,000 vehicles per year in Indonesia. The Karawang plant produces the Avanza sedan and Fortuner sport utility.

Apart from sales in the Indonesian market, Toyota’s Indonesian plant exports vehicles to Thailand, the Philippines, South Africa and the Middle East.
