Scotsman - Japanese car giant Honda is creating 500 jobs to meet a forecasted increase in production at its UK plant.
The move comes as full production resumes at the firm's Swindon factory following supply problems, with the company launching its latest-generation Civic.
Swindon’s "Car Plant 2" will return to a two-shift operation in the late spring of next year, creating a need for the additional posts. The workforce currently numbers about 3,000.
Honda Europe president Manabu Nishimae said at the Swindon plant: "The last three years have been difficult for all of Honda’s European operations. We have faced many challenges beginning with the economic downturn through to natural disasters in Japan and Thailand. Throughout this period, associates have… responded to these challenges."
Last month, rival Toyota provided a £100 million shot in the arm for the UK motor industry as it selected its Derbyshire plant to be its sole European manufacturing centre for a new family hatchback.
It plans to take on 1,500 workers over the next two years as production is ramped up to meet the expected demand.
