US: Nissan names Bailo to R&D role

Detroit Free Press - Nissan said today that is has appointed Carla Bailo as senior vice president of research and development for its North American unit.

Bailo, whose appointment is effective April 1, will report to Carlos Tavares, chairman of Nissan's management committee for the Americas.

Nissan said Bailo will be responsible for all of Nissan's vehicle engineering and development operations in Michigan, Arizona, Mexico and Brazil and also will retain her current position as a member of Nissan's management committee for the Americas.

Bailo, 50, will succeed Motohiro Matsumura, who is currently president of Nissan Technical Center North America. Matsumura will be returning to Nissan in Japan to a post that Nissan said will be announced in the near future.
