X Square Unveils Cross-Embodiment Action Tokenizer X-Tokenizer

Edited by Taylor From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich-X Square has unveiled the X-Tokenizer, a cross-embodiment action tokenizer, Gasgoo learned on June 30. The technology redefines action discretization in Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models—shifting from a simple "compression-reconstruction" problem to a challenge of learning the "semantic interface" between multimodal reasoning and action.

The X-Tokenizer employs an "Encoder-Semantic Residual Quantization (SRQ)-Decoder" architecture, swapping traditional standard Residual Vector Quantization (RVQ) for SRQ to isolate action intent. Pre-training covered 2.4 million trajectories—spanning 2 billion action frames across 17 different robotic arm series.

X Square has secured B+, B++, and C funding rounds in quick succession, with all deals now closed, according to a recent Gasgoo report. The company’s valuation has topped 20 billion yuan, a milestone that makes it the first—and so far only—embodied AI startup in the Greater Bay Area to cross that threshold.

The investor roster is equally impressive. Confirmed backers include more than 30 top-tier institutions such as China Mobile, the National AI Industry Investment Fund, Sequoia China, IDG Capital, Source Code Capital, Fortune Capital, and CICC Capital—spanning internet giants, industrial players, and state funds. Xiaomi Strategic Investment, notably, has joined three consecutive rounds, doubling down with fresh capital each time.

Just before this latest surge, X-Lab closed a B round in late April led by Xiaomi Strategic Investment and Sequoia China. That followed a 1 billion yuan A++ round in mid-January and another infusion of several hundred million yuan in February—a clear sign of the intense investor interest.

As a leading player in embodied robotics, X-Lab is pushing aggressively into home environments. The company previously partnered with 58.com to deploy robots equipped with its WALL-AS model into actual residences, where they worked alongside cleaners. This marked a global first for robots entering homes to manage complex domestic tasks—and represents the first large-scale deployment of robots in complex consumer settings.
