Gasgoo Munich-The State Administration for Market Regulation released figures on August 8 showing that 116,000 new enterprises were established in the humanoid robot sector during the first half of 2026. This 9.5% year-on-year increase is accelerating the formation of a new economic growth engine. During the same period, 561,000 new companies were set up nationwide across the "eight emerging and nine future industries," with humanoid robots standing out as a core track in the future industries category.
"China's humanoid robot industry is in a phase of rapid expansion," said Guo Tao, deputy director of the China E-commerce Expert Service Center. A wave of new entrants is flooding into specialized niches, joining established players to refine the industrial and innovation ecosystems. This influx is expected to accelerate product iteration and help the sector discover sustainable, profitable business models.
The surge in enterprise numbers stems from a convergence of policy, technology, and capital. On the policy front, the general offices of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission jointly issued a notice in June launching a special initiative for humanoid robots and embodied intelligence. Key tasks include creating real-world training environments, forming innovation consortiums, and mastering practical operational skills. Technologically, the domestic production of core components — sensors, reducers, and planetary roller screws — is advancing steadily, delivering a significant leap in motion control capabilities.
Capital markets are just as enthusiastic. Data shows total financing in China's embodied intelligence sector hit 93.5 billion yuan in the first half of 2026 — a fivefold increase from the same period last year. The number of deals climbed 137% to 322. Meanwhile, industry leader Unitree is set to begin subscriptions for its STAR Market listing on August 10, positioning itself to become the "first humanoid robot stock on the A-share market."
Mass production capabilities are rapidly materializing. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, domestic humanoid robot output stood at roughly 20,000 units in 2025. That figure topped 40,000 in the first half of 2026 alone, with the full year expected to breach the 100,000-unit mark. Zhiyuan Robot announced the roll-out of 15,000 units in early June, while Unitree completed mass production of approximately 11,000 units back in March. Rising from just six prototypes in 2023 to a projected 100,000-unit annual output, the humanoid robot industry is migrating from the laboratory to the assembly line and entering a true period of explosive growth.
