Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. (9973.HK), the group’s Hong Kong-listed entity, sold 261,876 units in July, a 24.1% rise that outpaced the group’s overall growth.
20 Million Cumulative Sales and a Fortune Global 500 Debut
July marked two major milestones for Chery: global cumulative sales surpassed 20 million vehicles, and Chery Automobile (9973.HK) entered the Fortune Global 500 for the first time as a publicly traded company. Ranked 383rd, it became the only new mainland Chinese entrant this year. By the end of July, Chery’s global user base exceeded 20.16 million, with over 6.99 million located overseas.
Its profitability is also significant. Chery Automobile ranked 30th globally in the Fortune Global 500’s top 50 list for return on equity (ROE), posting a 36.5% ROE that placed it first among all Chinese companies on the list. For comparison, the company’s full-year revenue for 2025 reached 300.29 billion yuan, an 11.3% increase, with net profit rising 36.1% to 19.51 billion yuan. In an industry facing a prolonged price war and squeezed margins, an ROE of 36.5% demonstrates the efficiency and resilience of its global operations.
Exports Set Records for Fifth Consecutive Month as Models Gain Popularity
Exports remain Chery’s key metric this July. Throughout the year, the company has successively cleared the 170,000, 180,000, 190,000, and 200,000-unit thresholds, setting new records for five straight months. At that pace, a Chery-built vehicle rolls out for export every 16 seconds. In regulated markets, sales across 24 European countries exceeded 174,000 units in the first half of the year, a 212% increase, with NEV sales rising 385% to 86,000 units.

Chery’s globalization strategy is shifting from simply exporting products to exporting an entire ecosystem. On July 3, the company inaugurated its Rosslyn plant in South Africa, retaining all 692 employees while creating nearly 3,000 jobs across the upstream and downstream supply chain.
Regarding new energy vehicles, Chery sold nearly 130,000 units in July, its fourth consecutive month above the 100,000 mark, solidifying its position in the industry’s top tier. Several models performed well: the Fengyun A9 received over 31,000 pre-orders in 15 days. Priced from 109,900 yuan and offering a range of 655 km, this pure electric sedan has attracted a user base where roughly 70% are under 35. The Zhijie V9 delivered over 10,000 units in a single month, while the all-new QQ3 exceeded 10,000 sales for four consecutive months. Technologically, Chery partnered with the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) to complete the industry’s first serial test of six extreme scenarios. Its Rhino battery successfully passed six challenges: bottom scraping, impact, wading, underwater charging, high-temperature charging, and nail penetration.
In quality and safety, Chery swept the top spots among domestic brands in J.D. Power’s four core studies between June and July: Initial Quality Study (IQS), Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL), Purchase Experience (PXI), and Customer Service Index (CSI). It is the only domestic brand to achieve the top ranking in all four studies this year. Currently, 71 Chery models have earned global five-star safety ratings, the most of any Chinese brand. On July 30, cumulative global sales of Chery’s Moja robots exceeded 2,000 units, with products and services reaching over 60 countries and regions. Chery’s ambitions extend beyond building cars.
