Gasgoo Munich- The 2026 China Auto Chongqing Summit kicked off on June 12 under the theme “Transforming Automotive Industry,” drawing top executives from global automakers. During the opening plenary, Zhao Fei, general manager of Changan Automobile Group, argued that the industry has been trapped in a "spec war" over the past few years—obsessing over chip computing power, LiDAR counts, and screen sizes. That approach, he warned, has hit a ceiling.
Zhao believes the intelligent transformation of China's auto sector is entering deep waters, with artificial intelligence now fully empowering the industry. As Chinese brands accelerate their overseas push, global expansion has become the core path for growth. The battleground, he added, is shifting from rapid product iteration to a test of endurance based on ecosystem depth.

Against this backdrop, Zhao outlined four proposals. First, fortify the safety baseline: extend protection from passive physical measures to active safeguards covering driving, psychological well-being, and privacy—while eliminating exaggerated marketing.
Second, uphold long-termism and systemic resilience: return to rational competition centered on user value, delivering products that offer both practical utility and emotional resonance.
Third, embrace technological innovation: build a joint industry-level technology platform and integrate R&D resources through brand-based collaboration.
Fourth, collaborate on global expansion: companies must break down boundaries to share resources in after-sales service and back-office operations, while industry organizations should assist with global technical standards and intellectual property protection.
Zhao called for converting China's first-mover advantages in new energy and smart technologies into globally leading brand equity—essential for achieving high-quality development.
