Gasgoo Munich- At the 2026 China Auto Chongqing Summit, XPENG Vice President and Automotive Technology Center Head Yu Peng declared the era of physical AI has arrived. While the industry has long focused on smart cockpits, he argued true vehicle intelligence cannot be confined to screens. It must extend deep into motion control. The chassis, in his view, is the fundamental bedrock of the smart car. It dictates how a vehicle drives, reacts, and protects occupants in extreme situations. Guided by this conviction, XPENG plans to ramp up R&D spending on its native AI chassis architecture.

Yu Peng outlined a three-dimensional approach to XPENG's AI chassis: physical, electrical, and software. The physical architecture features an all-aluminum front double-wishbone suspension. This enables a turning radius of just 5.4 meters for a full-size SUV. On the electrical side, full-link safety redundancy has been achieved, reducing the wiring harness by 21%. The software layer serves as the chassis's "little brain." It bridges the gap from single-controller logic to unified decision-making for whole-vehicle motion. For users, this translates into four core benefits: extreme safety, extreme comfort, extreme handling, and extreme intelligence.
XPENG launched its "Tai Chi AI Chassis" in July 2025, debuting the technology in the XPENG G7. The system features five core capabilities. These include AI-powered recognition of speed bumps, rough patches, uneven surfaces, and obstacles. Looking ahead, Yu Peng revealed XPENG's strategic pivot to becoming an "embodied AI company for the world." AI chassis capabilities and end-to-end motion control algorithms proven in cars are set for wider reuse. They will apply to flying cars, humanoid robots, and other intelligent terminals. This creates a synergistic network across devices.
