Gasgoo Munich-PIA Automation (SH.688306) successfully delivered a next-generation intelligent steering wheel assembly line to a Fortune 500 global automaker in July 2026. Designed to support the efficient, high-precision, and flexible mass production of core steering system components, the line accommodates more than 40 configuration combinations.

The line features a modular flexible production system divided into three independent functional units: central pre-assembly, main assembly, and testing and off-line. Its design accommodates various combinations of over 10 component types—including three steering wheel bodies, two shift paddles, and six multifunction switches—covering the automaker's full range of steering wheel models for its next-generation vehicles, from base to high-end trims. While achieving full flexible production, the line maintains a production cycle time of no more than 30 seconds, allowing for model switches without the need to halt production for retrofits.
On the quality front, the line employs an "automated assembly plus intelligent testing" framework. Critical assembly processes are executed by high-speed precision robotic arms and high-precision tightening systems, with tightening torque accuracy controlled to within 0.1 N·m. Key stations are equipped with intelligent visual inspection systems, and data is collected across the entire process—from component loading to finished product off-line—to generate a unique traceability code for each steering wheel.
Before leaving the factory, finished steering wheels must pass dozens of tests across three categories: electrical performance, functional safety, and mechanical performance. Specific checks include button and paddle response, hands-off detection (HOD) functionality, button backlight uniformity, and horn actuation force. This delivery is viewed as further validation of PIA Automation's global service capabilities in the high-end automotive intelligent manufacturing sector.
