BYD F3 becomes best-selling sedan for the first time
Shanghai, November 7 (Gasgoo.com) China's sedan market began to see an upward trend in October, with Chinese brand car BYD F3 leading the segment for the first time, said xinhuanet.com today, citing data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
China had a total of 409,600 domestically-made sedans sold in October, up 12.33 percent from a year earlier. As part of this total, 15,343 BYD F3 were sold, leading China's sedan sales for the first time ever just three years after its launch.
BYD F3 was followed by Jetta and Corolla, posting sales of 14,945 and 14,706 units respectively. The rest of the top ten sedan models by sales in October were Camry, Excelle, Accord, Xiali, Santana, Junjie and Elantra. Total sales of the ten sedan brands were 127,400 units, accounting for 31.10 percent of the total sales volume.
Sales of Chinese brand sedans totaled 112,900 units last month, accounting for 27.57 percent of the sedan market, while joint ventures held 72.43 percent market share, with 296,700 units sold.
The top 10 best-sellers of sedan brands from January to October were Jetta, Santana, Excelle, Corolla, Accord, Camry, QQ, F3, Xiali and Elantra. Total sales of the ten sedan brands were 1.29 million units, accounting for 30.85 percent of the total sales volume.
Overall, a total of 538,500 passenger cars were sold in October in China, up 8.37 percent from a year earlier after falling for two straight months, the CAAM data showed.
