Changan PSA to bring over DS models next April

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 1) - After finally gaining official approval from the National Development and Reform Commission last month, the new joint venture between Changan and PSA may gain its operating license as early as September, the Beijing News reported today. The information comes from Eric Apode, head of the Changan PSA project, who added that the JV will begin domestically producing vehicles in 2013.

Additionally, Mr. Apode added that Changan PSA will be bringing over the Citroën DS3 (pictured above) and DS4 next April. The official announcement will be made at next year's Beijing International Automobile Exhibition. The DS3 has had remarkable success in Europe, with its yearly sales surpassing those of its rival the Mini Cooper. Mr. Apode expressed his support for the DS model line.

After the two vehicles are brought over, Changan PSA reportedly plans to import the Citroën DS5 hatchback (pictured below), which made its debut at this year's Auto Shanghai 2011 exhibition. Imports of the DS5 will cease after domestic production begins.

Changan PSA hopes for sales of 200,000 vehicles between the end of 2014 and 2015. The Chinese market is clearly taking a more important position in PSA's global strategy.
