All-new Mercedes-Benz A-Class L sedan hits China to rival BMW 1 Series, Audi A3

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The all-new Mercedes-Benz A-Class L sedan officially hit China's market on November 23. Offering 5 variants at the preliminary stage, the China-made model is priced between RMB216,900 and RMB299,900.

The new model features a stylish front face with a massive matrix intake grille coupled with LED headlights on both sides. The body sides look quite fluent. The usage of large-sized multi-spoke aluminium alloy rims augments the sporty sense. At the rear end, there is ducktail design above the trunk and two dual exhaust pipes at the bottom.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class L sedan measures 4,622mm in length, 1,796mm in width and 1,454mm in height, which is 60mm longer than that of the existing model, satisfying Chinese consumers' special needs on larger passenger room. Wheelbase for the new sedan is up to 2,789mm.

Inside, the A-Class L sedan is largely covered by black with a piano lacquer panel and a great deal of silver trims. Both the display integrating two 10.25-inch screens at the center console and the three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel underscore the futuristic essence for the vehicle. Moreover, the new model will boast the all-new infotainment system MBUX to enhance the driving safety.

The locally-produced A-Class sedan is powered by a 1.3T four-cylinder engine with two power variants, mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Maximum outputs for two engine variants are 100kW and 120kW respectively. Driven by such powertrain, the new vehicle can sprint from 0-100km/h within 8.4 seconds.

The new model, based on the second-generation MFA platform (Merecedes Front-wheel-drive Architecture), will rival the China-made Audi A3 sedan and the BMW Series 1 sedan after entering the market. The MQB-based Audi A3 sedan has reaped the first-mover advantage as it is the earliest one that realized local production.
