Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Shanghai XPT Technology Co.,Ltd. (called “Shanghai Weilan” for short), an affiliated company of Chinese startup NIO, published on September 1 the patent application about an apparatus, method and computing program of motion-based facial recognition, according to the National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA).

Shanghai Weilan filed for the patent on June 27, 2019. According to CNIPA's records, an apparatus, system and method of motion-based facial recognition is provided through the establishment of facial motion profiles. The system uses a database, a camera and a processing unit. The database stores a predetermined profile of a default facial motion made by a user, having at least one facial landmark. The camera tracks and captures the user's facial motions, and takes a video-like clip. The patent application also says that the processing unit is connected to the database and the camera. The processing unit establishes the predetermined profile and a comparison profile of the facial motion through a profile establishment process. The processing unit further compares the comparison profile with the predetermined profile to verify the facial motion.
