Qoros Auto to roll out five new models in 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Qoros Auto, a Chinese automaker backed by property conglomerate Baoneng Group, announced on Feb. 19 it will roll out five new models in 2021, including an all-new compact sedan, two REEV (range-extended electric vehicle) models and the refreshed versions of the Qoros 5S and the Qoros 7.

The automaker revealed that the fire new sedan will feature a wheelbase close to that of the Camry (2,825mm), which is beyond the standard for conventional compact sedans.

The forthcoming two REEV models will ride on Baoneng Auto's self-developed xEV platform. Unveiled at last year's Auto China, the XEV platform is available for the development of multiple NEV (new energy vehicle) products, including BEVs (battery electric vehicles), PHEV (plug-in electric vehicles) and REEVs.

The first xEV-based model rolled off the assembly line at Baoneng's self-built car manufacturing plant in Xi'an in last November, when the plant kicked off production. Reportedly, it would be one of the aforesaid two REEVs Qoros Auto is to launch this year.

The Qoros 5S and the Qoros 7 serve as major sales contributors to the carmaker. It is expected to see some upgrades in configurations or other details of their refreshed models.

As one of investors of Qoros Auto, Baoneng Motor is exploring the development prospect for Qoros Auto. Meanwhile, Baoneng intends to release a premium auto brand this year that target the likes of Tesla and NIO, according to an internal mail sent by Toshiaki Otani, executive vice president of Baoneng Motor. The first model under the brand will be launched and hit the market in 2021 as well.
