Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese EV startup NIO delivered a total of 131,408 vehicles by the end of August 2021, William Bin Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO, said at the 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC).

“This is a small milestone in China's development of high-end smart electric vehicles. Currently, the average price of NIO's vehicles has surpassed 430,000 yuan($66,860) per car,” said Mr. Li.

NIO’s car deliveries reach 131,408 units as of Aug. 2021

NIO announced earlier this month it delivered 5,880 new vehicles in August and its Jan.-Aug. deliveries amounted to 55,767 units, surging 157.4% year on year.

Mr. Li said NIO's deliveries in August were not very high due to the chip shortage, while the monthly new order volume reached an all-time high.

In light of the continued uncertainty and volatility of semiconductor supply, NIO adjusted its product plan and revised its quarterly deliveries guidance for the third quarter. According to NIO's statement, it expects its Jul.-Sept. deliveries to reach roughly 22,500 to 23,500 vehicles, versus the previous outlook of 23,000 to 25,000 vehicles, which was just announced in NIO's second-quarter financial results.

At the industry conference, Mr. Li disclosed that NIO is developing EV charging and battery swapping facilities with greater power and higher energy efficiency. The company is working with supply chain partners on formulating carbon reduction tactics.

He revealed NIO has already built 22 EV charging and battery swapping stations in cooperation with Sinopec Group. Besides, both parties are making joint efforts to offer charging and battery swapping services at Sinopec Group's gas stations.

By the end of August 2021, NIO had deployed a total of 427 battery swapping stations across China, 52.84% of which were the NIO Power Swap Stations 2.0, and had completed over 3.6 million battery swaps, according to Mr. Li. Moreover, the ratio of NIO's vehicles to battery swapping stations reached 354 as of August, down by 16.5% compared to July. The data change indicates growing distribution density of NIO's battery swapping stations.
