According to documents released by China's State Administration of Market Regulation, some of the Model 3s and Model Ys manufactured between October 19th 2021 to April 26th 2022 suffer from malfunctioning central processing units within the onboard infotainment system.
When the vehicles are preparing for or during DC quick charge sessions, the CPU cannot cool down completely, leading to a lagged operating speed and center display. Under severe conditions, the malfunction will cause the CPU to reboot and therefore fail to display on the screen.
The error will cause users unable to use several onboard functions, including backup cameras, windshield functions (defrost, defog, and wipers), as well as gear display and indicator lights. The malfunctions may add to the risk of collision under extreme situations.
Tesla plans to perform OTA updates on the recalled vehicles to software version 2022.12.3.3 or newer. After the update, the errored CPUs will be able to slow down temperature climb preparing for or during quick charge in an effort to eliminate reboot or lags.
