Car and City: XPeng Jun. 2022 registrations soar 132% YoY

In the sixth month of 2022, Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) startup, XPeng, registered the most vehicles among the top five domestic NEV startups, including NIO, Li Auto, NETA, and Leapmotor. With a monthly registration volume of 15,397 vehicles, XPeng scored a 132% year-on-year hike in June, according to data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).

For the first half of the year, XPeng’s cumulative registration volume reached 68,917 vehicles.

Specifically, XPeng’s most popular model, the P7, continued to drive the company’s performance in June, with 8,074 vehicles registered, soaring 66.61% from a year ago.

Shanghai took the lead in June with the most P7s registered (745 units). Notably, the top ten cities by the P7 registrations in the month were all relatively developed cities in China. Considering NEV infrastructures coverage and the model's higher-end market position, the outcome should be considered logical.

In the meantime, there were 5,597 units of the P5 registered in June across China, leaping 52.47% from the previous month.

With 646 P5s registered in the past month, Shanghai again stood atop other cities regarding P5 registrations in June. Among the top ten cities list, nine of which were the same as the list for P7 registrations but with different rankings. The one exception was that Chongqing dropped out of the list and Foshan entered with more P5s registered in June.  

Last but not least, XPeng saw its June registrations of the G3 model go down to 1,726 units, dropping 21.44% and 2.8% from the pervious month as well as the previous year.  

Just like the automaker’s other two models, in June, the G3 scored the most registrations in Shanghai with a significant lead. Zhengzhou and Ningbo tied at the tenth place with 44 G3s registered each.
