Changan Automobile receives Thai government's EV3.5 policy approval

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On January 17, Chinese automaker Changan Automobile, under the strategic guidance of its "Vast Ocean" overseas market expansion plan, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Thai Excise Department in Bangkok, Thailand.

This milestone makes Changan the first automotive brand officially approved under the Thai government's EV3.5 policy, aligning with Thailand's "30/30" initiative. The signing reflects Changan Automobile's commitment to actively contribute to Thailand's green mobility transformation.

The EV3.5 policy, part of Thailand's electric vehicle promotion plan's second phase, spans from 2024 to 2027. Aimed at ensuring sustained electric vehicle sales in Thailand and supporting the government's "30/30" targets, the policy serves as a catalyst for the continuous growth of Thailand's electric vehicle industry.

Thailand's “30/30” initiative represents a strategic commitment to expedite the local adoption of electric vehicles. The initiative sets a specific target that by 2030, 30% of all vehicles produced in Thailand will be electric.

Reflecting on Changan's journey into Thailand, the company officially established three entities in August 2023, laid the foundation stone for the Rayong factory, held the brand launch event, as well as successfully launched the two signature DEEPAL new energy vehicle models at the Thailand International Motor Expo 2023 in November. On January 10, 2024, the Chinese automaker delivered its first batch products to Thai customers. 

Changan's sales and service channels in Thailand already cover key provinces such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, and Chiang Rai. Plans for 2024 include expanding to 80-100 sales and service points, said the automaker.
