SAIC Motor’s new energy vehicle sales in Jan. 2024 surge 99.68% YoY
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Motor announced on Feb. 8 its monthly auto sales reached 244,916 units in the first month of 2024, edging up 2.9% from the previous year.
Of the vehicles the group sold last month, 64,338 units were new energy vehicles (“NEVs”), representing a robust year-on-year surge of 99.68%.
In addition, SAIC Motor also reported a volume of 64,175 vehicles for its exports and overseas market sales for the month of January, indicating a 16.23% decline over a year earlier.
On January 17, SAIC Motor marked a significant milestone as it officially commissioned the ocean-going car carrier, constructed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the world's largest shipbuilding conglomerate. The vessel, named "SAIC Anji Shencheng," commenced its inaugural voyage.
Breaking down the sales figures by specific subsidiaries, SAIC Volkswagen topped others with a Jan. sales volume of over 90,000 vehicles, which leapt 32% from the year-ago period. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company posted a 9.17% year-over-year dip with 50,592 vehicles sold last month. SAIC-GM recorded a 34.55% year-on-year decrease in its Jan. Sales, which stood at 36,000 units. Besides, SAIC-GM-Wuling sold 35,000 vehicles in the same month, reflecting a 16.67% growth from a year ago.

Notably, IM Motors, the premium electric vehicle brand co-owned with Alibaba Group and Zhangjiang High-tech, scored a staggering year-on-year soar of 886.39% with 5,001 vehicles sold in January 2024, primarily thanks to the popularity of the mid-to-large SUV LS6.
