Autoliv to build second China-based R&D center in Wuhan city

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On March 7, 2025, Autoliv officially signed an agreement with the Dongxihu District government in Wuhan, Hubei Province, to establish its second R&D center in China, according to a post on Autoliv's WeChat account.

This move marks a further step in the company's commitment to deepening its local R&D strategy and advancing its "In China, For the World" innovation initiative, aimed at serving global customers and driving high-quality, intelligent development in the automotive sector.

As a key strategic hub in Autoliv's China operations, the Wuhan R&D center will span 40 mu (26,667 square meters) and feature state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and a digital R&D platform. The first phase of construction is expected to be operational by mid-2026. The center aims to become a world-class innovation facility, providing strong support for Autoliv's technological advancements and product development in China.

Mr. Sun Yi, President of Autoliv China, highlighted Wuhan's advantages in education, talent, transportation, and industrial ecosystem, which create a fertile environment for collaboration. Autoliv will leverage its expertise in automotive safety to deepen its partnership with Wuhan, fostering a strong ripple effect that will help enhance and upgrade Hubei's automotive supply chain.

In a related development, on February 28, 2025, Autoliv China signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Baowu Magnesium, a global leader in the magnesium industry, in Chaohu, Anhui Province. This collaboration represents another milestone in Autoliv’s expansion in China, focusing on automotive lightweighting and safety performance enhancements. The two companies will drive innovation through a "materials revolution + safety innovation" model, delivering lighter, more advanced product solutions for global customers while promoting technological breakthroughs and sustainability in the automotive industry.
