BYD exports from China to global markets: PHEVs lead in Brazil, Mexico丨Top 10 destinations by BYD's shipments of passenger vehicles (Jan.–Apr. 2025)

As the global wave of new energy vehicles (NEVs) continues to surge, Chinese car brands are rapidly expanding their presence overseas. Among them, BYD is emerging as a powerful player, accelerating its reach across key global markets.

Here are the top 10 destination countries by BYD passenger vehicle exports from January to April 2025, with detailed data:

Brazil: 17,584 battery electric passenger vehicles and 32,260 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 49,844 units.

Mexico: 18,754 battery electric passenger vehicles and 30,555 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 49,309 units.

Belgium: 23,347 battery electric passenger vehicles and 18,752 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 42,099 units.

Turkey: 7,026 battery electric passenger vehicles and 10,691 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 17,717 units.

UK: 8,766 battery electric passenger vehicles and 8,804 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 17,570 units.

Thailand: 14,636 battery electric passenger vehicles.

Indonesia: 13,717 battery electric passenger vehicles.

Spain: 6,445 battery electric passenger vehicles and 5,418 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 11,863 units.

Australia: 6,361 battery electric passenger vehicles and 3,873 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 10,234 units.

Philippines: 2,823 battery electric passenger vehicles and 5,545 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 8,368 units.

Brazil and Mexico have become core target markets for BYD's global expansion, with combined exports approaching 100,000 units. Supportive policies, such as Brazil's "Rota 2030" program and Mexico's growing infrastructure construction, are creating ideal conditions for the growth of BYD's NEVs.

In Brazil, BYD is partnering with the government of Bahia state to establish its Camaçari production complex, which is scheduled to begin operations on June 26. The first models to roll off the production line will be the Seagull and Song Pro DM-i. Meanwhile, BYD is in discussions to build a local factory in Mexico, where models like the Seagull, Dolphin, Song PLUS, Song Pro, and Destroyer 05 are already performing strongly in the market.

Belgium, a key logistics hub in Europe, ranks third with 42,099 units exported, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounting for about 55.5%. Beyond serving local demand, a large share of these vehicles is efficiently distributed to key Western European markets, including Germany, France, and the Netherlands, positioning Belgium as BYD's strategic gateway to Europe. BYD is rapidly stepping up its expansion across the region.

On May 21, BYD simultaneously launched the BYD DOLPHIN SURF in 15 European countries, including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Poland, and Switzerland, further strengthening its pint-sized BEV lineup and deepening market reach through its established distribution network.

Thailand (14,636 BEVs) and Indonesia (13,717 BEVs) stand out among BYD's top 10 export destination markets as key representatives of the BEV segment. Both countries offer government subsidies and tax incentives to support BEV adoption. BYD's plant in Rayong, Thailand, is already in operation, significantly strengthening its supply capacity and competitiveness in the local and surrounding markets. In Indonesia, preparations for a local factory are also moving forward.

The data shows that BYD's balanced approach—driving growth through both BEVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)—is delivering strong momentum. PHEV-dominant markets include Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, and the Philippines, while Belgium, Australia, Thailand, and Indonesia are mainly driven by BEV sales.
