NavInfo to provide BMW with map products, services for autonomous driving
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China-based digital map provider NavInfo and BMW China Automotive Trading Ltd. recently signed an agreement about the mapping products and services for autonomous driving, NavInfo announced on February 12.
According to the agreement, the mapping company will provide the automaker with its maps and relevant services for level 3 (or higher levels) autonomous driving that will be used in BMW Group-owned vehicles, including BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, to be mass produced and delivered in China between 2021 and 2024. Meanwhile, NavInfo should take charge of the follow-up product online launch and upgrade.
Quantity and value of the transaction will depend on the sales volume of BMW's vehicles equipped with autonomous driving system during the agreed period.
NavInfo said the newly-signed agreement signals a breakthrough in its autonomous driving business, which demonstrates its leading position in China's autonomous driving map industry.
In fact, the two companies had inked a license agreement as early as 2017 which allowed NavInfo to offer its navigation electronic maps to BMW's vehicles. Different from the former's focus on navigation electronic map, the new cooperation is formed to strengthen the map provider's competency in autonomous driving market.
Founded in 2002, NavInfo is the market leader in navigation map, dynamic traffic information, navigation software development and state-of-the-art customized telematics solutions to both passenger and commercial vehicles.
