Dongfeng to help Wuhan build China’s largest demonstration zone for autonomous driving

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Dongfeng Motor officially launched on October 19 its autonomous driving project in Wuhan, attempting to build China's biggest demonstration zone for autonomous driving application in the capital of Hubei province, according to a local media outlet.

To achieve that goal, Dongfeng will team up with such leading autonomous driving tech developers as AutoX, DeepRoute.ai and UISEE.

Under the Dongfeng-led project, at least 200 autonomous vehicles are set to be deployed in smart travelling scenarios like Robotaxi and automated valet parking. Besides, car sharing platforms like Dongfeng Motor's DFGO will be used to explore proper business model for the commercial application of autonomous technologies and vehicles.

The demonstration zone of Wuhan's state-level NEV and ICV bases will gradually expand to core urban districts. By the end of 2020, there will be 106-km-long public roads for autonomous driving and ICV road tests at Wuhan Economic & Technology Development Zone, of which 28 km were launched last year and 78 km are under construction, according to the local report.

The Wuhan-situated demonstration zone will feature more than 100 application scenarios, embracing roundabouts, intersections, bridges, underpasses and toll gates, perhaps the most abundant in China, said the local media channel.

Powered by 5G technology and the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, the Wuhan demonstration zone will boast a V2X (vehicle-to-everything) network with the latency shortened to a few milliseconds and the positioning accuracy at centimeter level, according to a construction plan exposed by the local report.
