With Shenzhen’s addition, Pony.ai now performs large-scale autonomous driving road tests or autonomous services in seven cities in China and the U.S.
In November, the company announced the completion of its fifth R&D center, located in the modern service industry cooperation zone in Shenzhen. The Shenzhen R&D Center opens up the opportunity for cross-city strategic layouts and R&D networks in the bay area (Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, and Macau).
Pony.ai aims to further autonomous driving development and testing progression in the area. This time, the open-road-test permission signifies a crucial achievement of the company’s new Shenzhen R&D Center.
Since 2017, Pony.ai has accumulated ample road test mileage and software/hardware R&D experience in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and California, USA. The company has iterated its technologies to accustom to high temperature, heavy rain, rush hours, and differentiated traffic habits, and can quickly replicate the experiences into a new city and cross-reference them.
Currently, Pony.ai’s autonomous driving technologies are able to process various complex scenarios, including left-turn waiting, city expressways, tunnels, narrow roads, large truck pass-throughs.
