Baidu-backed autonomous driving developer DeepWay granted road test license in Tianjin

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Baidu-backed autonomous truck developer DeepWay recently became the first enterprise in Tianjin city to obtain a commercial intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) road test license, according to a post on DeepWay's WeChat account.

DeepWay has successfully passed various autonomous driving tests, including road traffic infrastructure and obstacle recognition and response, recognition and response of surrounding vehicle driving status, automatic emergency evasion, etc. Through the issuance of a self-declaration of ICV road test safety, DeepWay has officially been granted permission to conduct public road tests in the Tianjin region.

This license from Tianjin marked the second commercial vehicle road test license obtained by DeepWay within four months after the initial license issued by Beijing in November last year. The issuance of Tianjin’s first autonomous driving commercial vehicle road test license reflects the recognition of DeepWay's autonomous driving technology and safety by the government of the Tianjin Dongjiang Free Trade Port Area, and also indicates that DeepWay's L4 intelligent new energy heavy-duty truck is one step closer to mass production and commercial operation.

After obtaining the autonomous driving road test licenses, DeepWay plans to move into multiple cities that support autonomous driving vehicle road testing next, and obtain multiple autonomous driving road test licenses in bulk, in order to further test and verify the DeepWay HIS autonomous driving system. Moreover, the company also plans to boost its product iteration capability by operating its vehicles in scale under real-life scenarios.
