China’s Polar Bear Tech secures significant funding for next-gen Chiplet development

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese chiplet design company, Polar Bear Tech on Monday announced the recent completion of a new funding round worth of over 100 million yuan. This funding infusion comes from notable investors including Harvest Capital and Zhengwei Capital.

The capital raised in this round will primarily support the development of next-generation general-purpose and functional chiplets, along with the further advancement of high-speed interconnect chiplet interface and foundational technologies, said Polar Bear Tech. 

Polar Bear Tech, born out of Tsinghua University's Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences, boasts a strong team background and has solidified its position as a domestic leader in the chiplet domain. The company’s accomplishments include the release of China's first intelligent processing chip based on heterogeneous chiplet integration, the "Qiming 930," which demonstrated a successful process validation within the national chip packaging supply chain. 

The company has established a comprehensive algorithm, compilation, and software toolchain system, with its self-developed NPU achieving an average utilization rate of over 70% in mainstream AI model applications. This technology is poised to be widely applied in high-performance computing fields such as AI acceleration and intelligent driving in cloud, edge, and endpoint environments.

Launched in February of this year, the Qiming 930 intelligent processing chip is based on heterogeneous chiplet integration. It is the first high-performance computing SoC to complete full-chip design and national packaging validation using this approach. The central control chip of the Qiming 930 employs RISC-V CPU cores and can accommodate multiple functional chiplets through high-speed interfaces.  

The product is suitable for various scenarios including AI inference, privacy computing, and industrial intelligence. Collaboration with multiple downstream AI partners for testing is already underway, said Polar Bear Tech.
