Huawei, China Mobile complete 5G V2X technology validation

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Huawei, in collaboration with China Mobile Research Institute, has successfully conducted 5G-based V2X (vehicle-to-everything) testing across multiple locations in China, in partnership with China Mobile’s Chongqing, Jiangsu, and Shanghai regional branches.

Officials reported that the end-to-end communication latency averaged less than 17 milliseconds, confirming the feasibility of using 5G commercial networks for V2X services.

In this comprehensive test, Huawei and its partners formed a dedicated testing team, selecting 23 high-priority scenarios for evaluation, including 12 advanced driving assistance scenarios and 11 autonomous driving scenarios. The results demonstrated that utilizing the common UPF architecture led to an average communication latency of less than 20ms, while innovative UPF downlink architecture achieved an average latency of under 17ms.

The companies emphasized that these results effectively validated 5G networks' capability to support typical V2X services, establishing the viability of innovative 5G solutions for commercial V2X operations and providing substantial data support for the implementation of 5G-based V2X services.

5G networks, renowned for its large bandwidth, low latency, and extensive connectivity, power intelligent connected vehicles with features like autonomous driving, precise positioning, and high-precision navigation. Additionally, utilizing 5G networks for V2X services enables applications such as green light speed guidance, speed limit warnings, and road information alerts to be offered citywide.
