TuSimple’s Japan team initiated routine autonomous driving tests on the Tomei/Shin-Tomei Expressway in January 2023 and achieved this milestone in October. The test route spanned approximately 270 kilometers between Atsugi Minami IC and Toyota JCT on the Tomei/Shin-Tomei Expressway, featuring various complex scenarios found on Japanese highways, including continuous tunnel drives exceeding 5 kilometers. TuSimple's autonomous truck accumulated over 41,605 kilometers of test distance on this route.
Following the success of on-road testing in Japan, the TuSimple Japan team plans to increase the number of test trucks and expand the test route from Tokyo to Osaka by 2024. Previously, TuSimple had accomplished the world's first fully unmanned testing of autonomous heavy-duty trucks on public roads in the United States. In China, the TuSimple team conducted China's first fully unmanned testing on autonomous driving public roads at locations such as Shanghai's Deep-sea Port Logistics Park and Donghai Bridge.
Furthermore, the TuSimple Japan team has participated in the Japan Mobility Show 2023 and showcase its centralized domain control large perception box, known as "TS-Box." This in-house-developed, cost-effective, all-in-one autonomous driving product aims to provide high-performance autonomous driving solutions to OEM customers in the commercial and passenger vehicle sectors.
