GAC Group obtains L3 autonomous vehicle road test license in Guangzhou

Beijing (Gasgoo)- GAC Group announced on January 9 its acquisition of an L3 autonomous vehicle test license in Guangzhou by the end of 2023, which allows the company to conduct trials on designated highway and expressways in the city.

GAC Group aims to introduce L3 autonomous driving features, like Traffic Jam Pilot (TJP), on the company’s wholly-owned brand models such as the Hyper GT, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.

GAC Group’s TJP system facilitates lane centering, speed and distance maintenance, applicable at speeds up to 80 km/h, enabling drivers to divert attention from the steering wheel to other tasks while the system operates autonomously.

During autonomous driving sessions on closed highways or city single-lane expressways, the system prompts drivers to regain control if it exceeds operational design domain (ODD). Under suitable road conditions, it seamlessly transitions from L3 intelligent driving functions to features like Integrated Cruise Assistance (ICA) or Navigated Driving Assistance (NDA) within the L2++ smart driving functions range.

GAC Group's venture into the autonomous driving field dates back to 2013 with the inception of the ADiGO PILOT intelligent driving system. Now equipped with end-to-end R&D capabilities, covering analysis, design, software, algorithm development, integration, and testing, GAC Group has established R&D capabilities for computing platforms from L2 to L4.

The L2++ intelligent driving functions of the automaker’s ADiGO PILOT system are integrated into models like the Hyper GT and the Hyper HT, facilitating driving on highway and city expressways, as well as diverse parking scenarios. Leveraging L4 autonomous driving technology, GAC Group's Robotaxi is also deployed for demonstration operation on the group’s ride-share platform, OnTime.
