Zhongke Electric to build new lithium battery anode materials base in Meishan

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Hunan Zhongke Electric Co., Ltd. (“Zhongke Electric) inked an agreement on May 13 to build a lithium battery anode materials manufacturing base in Meishan city, Sichuan province, according to a post on the company's official WeChat account.

Under the agreement, the base will be located at Ganmei Industrial Park and involve a total fixed asset investment of around 2.5 billion yuan ($368.01 million). It will be built into an integrated manufacturing base with an annual production capacity of 100,000-tonne lithium battery anode materials, containing anode materials production lines, as well as other supporting facilities as warehouses, office blocks, employee dormitories, and canteens.

The manufacturing base is designed to be constructed in two phases, each of which features a yearly production capacity of 50,000-tonne anode materials. The entire project is designed to be completed within 36 months, according to the agreement.

Founded in 2004, Zhongke Electric is committed to providing overall solution for electromagnetic metallurgy, as well as online heating system for continuous rolling. It was listed on Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2009. In 2017, the company made a strategic foray into the new energy lithium-ion battery industry, forming a dual business structure of “magnetoelectric equipment plus lithium battery anode”. As of now, it has built lithium battery anode materials plants in China's Hunan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces.

Zhongke Electric has served a slew of battery makers including CATL, BYD, CALB, EVE Energy, and Ruipu Energy.

The company said the newest investment is an important part of its anode materials production capacity deployment, and would help it to meet the ever-growing market demands for lithium battery anode.
