China’s Changsha city aims to deploy over 163,000 charging piles by 2025

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Changsha, the capital of China's Hunan province, aims to build over 163,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging piles across the city by 2025, more than 38,000 of which are planned for public services, according to a document recently issued by the Changsha City Development and Reform Commission.

The document was issued to publish the city's development plan on EV charging infrastructures for the 14th five-year plan period (2021-2025).

Under the plan, Changsha city also expects the average service radius of public charging facilities in the central urban area not to exceed 1km.By the end of 2020, there had been 1,277 charging stations in Changsha city, including 1,031 public charging stations and 246 charging stations for dedicated uses. The number of charging piles in the city had totaled 53,339 as of 2022, including 13,743 piles for public services, 3,332 piles for dedicated uses, as well as 36,264 piles for residents' applications.

During the 13th five-year plan period (2016-2020), Changsha city basically fulfilled its target with 1,030 charging stations, and 13,169 charging piles for public and dedicated uses newly deployed.

As of 2022, the average service radius of public charging facilities in Changsha’s central urban area had been shrunk to 1.5km

By the end of Nov. 2022, Changsha had constructed over 22,000 public charging piles, accounting for more than 60% of Hunan province's total volume.
