China’s Chengdu city eyes annual NEV output of 250,000 units by 2025

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chengdu, the capital of China’s Sichuan province, aims to lift its annual new energy vehicle (NEV) production volume to 250,000 units and yearly NEV industry’s scale to over 150 billion yuan ($21.747 billion) by the year of 2025, according to a document posted on the website of Chengdu’s municipal government on March 13.

The document introduces the implementation opinions on promoting the development of Chengdu's NEV industry (referred as “the Opinions”).

According to the said Opinions, Chengdu expects to see around 800,000 NEVs running on roads and over 80% vehicles in the public service areas electrified as of 2025.

In addition, the city aims to build 3,000 charging and battery swapping stations, and 160,000 charging piles by 2025.

The Opinions also mention the governmental supports to complete vehicle enterprises in carrying out the innovation in pure electric and fuel cell vehicle integration technologies, and encourage automakers to cooperate with domestic and international leading enterprises in the fields related to NEV R&D.

By 2025, up to 70% of components supplied to electrified vehicles in the public service areas should be locally sourced from Chengdu city.
