GAC AION announces foray into Thai auto market

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 28, GAC AION, the new energy vehicle subsidiary of GAC Group, signed a memorandum of cooperation at the 2023 Thai-Chinese Business and Commerce Conference. This announcement marked GAC AION's official entry into the Thai market, signaling the beginning of the globalization of the AION brand.

According to the plan, GAC AION will establish its Southeast Asian headquarters in Thailand within this year, and preparations for local production of vehicles in Thailand are already underway. In the future, GAC AION will deepen its presence in the Thai market and gradually expand its influence to Southeast Asia and neighboring regions, achieving an integrated approach to global research, production, supply, and sales.

Currently, GAC AION holds a prominent position in the domestic new energy vehicle market. According to the previously announced sales data, the automaker sold a total of 45,003 new vehicles in May this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 114% and a month-on-month growth of 10%. This is the third consecutive month that GAC AION's monthly sales exceeded 40,000 vehicles, demonstrating a continuous month-by-month upward trend.

From January to May this year, GAC AION's cumulative sales reached 166,323 vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of 119%. The company ranks third in terms of retail sales volume among China’s domestic new energy vehicle manufacturers. The top two positions are occupied by BYD and Tesla, with retail sales volumes of 923,343 vehicles and 219,893 vehicles, respectively.

GAC AION has set a sales target for this year to reach 500,000 vehicles and strive for 600,000 vehicles. As of May, the completion rate has already exceeded 33%.

It is worth noting that in addition to GAC AION, GAC Group has also formulated the "NEXT" plan this year, aiming to achieve synchronous development of EV and XEV. The plan seeks to maintain GAC AION's leading advantage in the pure electric vehicle field while promoting GAC Trumpchi's successful transformation into a new energy vehicle technology enterprise. For GAC AION, international expansion will be a key focus of its business this year.
