NIO’s first third-gen power swap station in Europe comes online

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 17, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker NIO announced the official launch of the inaugural European-spec third-generation battery swap station and a blazing 500kW ultra-fast charging station.

The move comes as NIO establishes its third-gen battery swap station in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, perched on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea. This installation becomes the company’s 6th power swap station in Sweden and the 25th in Europe, underscoring NIO's commitment to enhancing the EV experience for users across the continent.

With this launch, NIO is steadfast in its commitment to accelerate the deployment of EV charging and battery swapping infrastructure throughout Europe, ensuring seamless and convenient charging experiences for its growing European customer base.

NIO’s third-gen power swap station, which was introduced on the NIO Day 2022, features significant advancements in both intelligence and operational efficiency compared to its predecessor.

Harnessing a brand-new three-bay collaborative swapping model, the third-gen station drastically reduces battery circulation pathways, resulting in a 20% reduction in battery swap time. With an increased capacity of 21 battery packs, the station can serve up to 408 vehicles daily, marking a 30% increase in service capacity. The addition of NIO's self-developed HPC bidirectional high-power liquid-cooled power module elevates charging and discharging power to 62.5kW, achieving a peak efficiency of 98%.

Besides, the aforementioned 500kW ultra-fast charging pile, boasts a maximum current of 660A and voltage of 1,000V. Featuring a self-developed super-light liquid-cooled charging cable that weighs less than half of traditional counterparts, this innovation makes single-handed operation a breeze. Supporting both QR code scanning and NFC card payment, NIO ensures seamless integration with European users’ charging habits.

As of August 17, 2023, NIO has already established in Europe a network of 25 battery swap stations and 10 charging stations with 33 charging piles, and had access to over 500,000 charging piles.
