Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC-GM, the joint venture between SAIC Motor and General Motors, announced on November 10 via its WeChat account it has teamed up with Tesla China to establish an interconnected charging network. This strategic partnership aims to deliver a highly efficient and convenient charging experience.

Starting from the latter part of 2023, owners of the Ultium platform-based models under SAIC-GM's Cadillac and Buick brands, will gain access to brand-specific apps. Through the innovative charging map functionality, they will be able to charge their vehicles at some Tesla's Supercharger stations and destination charging stations, previously accessible exclusively to Tesla vehicles.

As of today, Tesla has opened up 10 Supercharger stations and over 200 destination charging stations to non-Tesla electric vehicles in China. With Tesla progressively expanding the accessibility of its charging network, more of SAIC-GM's pure electric vehicles will have the opportunity to utilize these interconnected charging points.

SAIC-GM has marked a milestone as the first entity in China to collaborate with Tesla on interconnected charging networks, thereby enhancing its nationwide replenishment infrastructure. For reference, SAIC-GM has established 52 own-brand charging stations, boasting a total of 246 charging terminals in operation. Following the debut of the Ultium Ultra Charging Stations in Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Wuhan in September, additional stations are steadily being introduced. Simultaneously, the Ultium Airport Charging Service Centers have commenced operations at seven airports nationwide since October.

Beyond its collaboration with Tesla China, SAIC-GM is actively engaged with six other prominent charging service providers. Its collaboration spans over 320 cities, with a network of 500,000 high-quality charging piles, achieving a coverage rate exceeding 96% of national prefecture-level cities. Furthermore, the network encompasses over 3,000 charging stations along expressways, further fortifying SAIC-GM's commitment to delivering comprehensive and accessible electric vehicle charging solutions across the country.
