BMW’s Gen6 Battery Project at Shenyang base delivers building's roof sealing

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 22, 2023, BMW officially held the topping-out ceremony for the construction of the Gen6 Battery Project at its Shenyang production base, according to the group's press release.

This battery project, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan, covers an expansive area of 240,000 square meters, five times larger than the existing battery production area. Anticipated to create 2,000 new job opportunities, the project commenced full-scale construction in May of this year.

A notable feature of the Gen6 Battery Project is its pioneering use of a ground-source heat pump heating system. Additionally, advanced digital technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality have been integrated into the planning and construction phases, ensuring a project executed with high standards, quality, and efficiency.

One key advancement lies in the increased voltage platform of the battery, elevating it to 800 volts for the "Neue Klasse" models. This enhancement is poised to optimize energy supply at direct-current fast-charging stations.

This milestone follows BMW's ongoing efforts to expand its industrial footprint in China and accelerate the localization of its new energy vehicle products. Notably, the BMW Brilliance's power battery center, inaugurated in 2017, stands out as BMW Group's first power battery center with complete equipment capabilities outside Germany. The batteries produced at this center are utilized in various BMW models. Besides, the all-electric BMW i5, featuring the fifth-generation BMW eDrive electric drive technology and BMW's latest charging technology, making its global debut at the Auto Guangzhou 2023.

In collaboration with supplier partners, BMW is actively contributing to the industrial upgrade in Liaoning province, including the joint investment with ZF Group to establish a new energy vehicle electric drive system production base in Shenyang city.
