SAIC Motor breaks ground on new battery base in Nanjing city’s Jiangbei New Area

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 21, the groundbreaking ceremony for the battery and new energy power technology factory project at the Jiangbei New Area base of Nanjing Automobile Group was held in Nanjing city, according to a post on SAIC Motor's WeChat account.

Nanjing Automobile Group Limited was established in 1947, and it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SAIC Motor in 2007. Its Jiangbei New Area base is a crucial manufacturing hub for SAIC Motor's wholly-owned brands, covering both traditional oil-fueled vehicles and new energy vehicles.

Following the principle of "overall planning, phased implementation," the project commenced with the completion of the main production plant in one go, while the production facilities are implemented in stages. Once the first phase is completed, the facility will have an annual production capacity of over 240,000 sets of power batteries, with an initial planned capacity exceeding 10 GWh.

According to the project schedule, the main construction of the plant is expected to be completed by August of this year, with stable production capacity achieved by the end of the year.

The automotive industry is a pillar industry in Nanjing, and in recent years, the city has seized the opportunity for the development of new energy vehicles. Embracing the directions of electrification, interconnection, and intelligence, Nanjing is accelerating the creation of a highland for the development of the new energy vehicle industry cluster. As an essential supporting force for the city's automotive industry, Jiangbei New Area has formed a complete industry chain, covering key components manufacturing such as chipsets, motors, and batteries, as well as vehicle production, intelligent network systems, vehicle-road coordination, and end-user consumption.
