Mr. Kaban joins SAIC Motor as the Vice President of Global Design at the SAIC DESIGN, which is affiliated to SAIC Motor's R&D Innovation Headquarters, where he will lead forward-thinking creation and product design efforts across the company’s full array of automobile brands.
In response to the industry-wide shift toward "data-driven experiences and software-defined vehicles," SAIC Motor has strategically consolidated its resources by integrating its five major information technology centers—software, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and cybersecurity—with its passenger vehicle technology center and international innovation hubs. This integration forms the backbone of the SAIC Motor's R&D Innovation Headquarters, which boasts an in-house R&D team of over ten thousand members. SAIC DESIGN, a key component of this institute, has evolved into one of China’s most significant forces in automotive design over the past decade, achieving national recognition as a state-level industrial design center in 2021. Today, SAIC DESIGN operates the Anting Global Design Center in Shanghai, and forward-thinking design centers in London and Tokyo, boasting a global team with over 300 designers in total.
The year 2024 marks the centenary of SAIC’s MG brand, and Jozef Kaban’s participation is especially meaningful. His presence is set to significantly enhance SAIC Motor’s design competitiveness and global stature, providing superior vehicle models to automotive consumers worldwide and accelerating SAIC Motor’s expansion into global markets.
Jozef Kaban, a designer with world-class repute, graduated in 1997 from the Royal College of Art in London with a major in transport design before joining Volkswagen Group in Germany, where he demonstrated exceptional design talent. At just 25 years old, Mr. Kaban was responsible for the design of the Bugatti Veyron supercar project. His remarkable design acumen has led him to prominent positions at world-class brands including Audi, Skoda, BMW, Rolls-Royce, and Volkswagen.
