Shanghai grants approval for Tesla's Megapack factory in Lingang New Area
Beijing (Gasgoo)- On May 6, the Management Committee of Shanghai Lingang New Area announced the administrative licensing decision approving the construction scheme of Tesla's Megapack battery plant project in the city.

The project, proposed by Tesla (Shanghai), involves relevant engineering construction within the jurisdiction of the South Fengjie River area.
The Tesla Megapack factory project was contracted between Tesla and Shanghai’s Lingang New Area on April 9, 2023. It aims to produce large-scale commercial energy storage batteries (Megapack) for global markets. the factory is projected to produce approximately 10,000 units of Megapack batteries annually, with a storage capacity of nearly 40GWh, according to a local media outlet.
On December 22, 2023, the Lingang New Area Management Committee and Tesla held a ceremony for successfully procuring land usage rights, marking the official commencement of the Tesla Megapack factory project in Shanghai.
Tesla's diversified energy storage products, including products like Powerwall, Powerpack, and Megapack, have been sold in over 65 countries and regions worldwide, with over 1,500 operational sites and a total installed capacity exceeding 10GWh.
