Great Wall Motor plans to unveil its first supercar by late 2026

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 30, Great Wall Motor ("GWM") used its official Weibo account to share a clip from China Central Television's Dialogue program, where Chairman Wei Jianjun revealed that the company's first supercar will make its debut by the end of 2026.

Mr. Wei explained that the project has been in development for four to five years. He said the decision to build a supercar was not driven by necessity for GWM's business, but rather by the ambition to show that a Chinese brand could deliver a world-class performance car.

Hints of the project surfaced earlier this year. On July 23 this year, to mark GWM's 35th anniversary, Wei posted a group photo with company executives. At the center of the picture was a low-slung sports car with a sculpted profile, large side intakes, and a subtle rear wing, sparking speculation about an upcoming performance model.

In fact, GWM's Chief Technology Officer Wu Huixiao revealed in April 2025 that work on the supercar began five years ago, with the mandate to create a vehicle that would be both adrenaline-charged and emotionally stirring. Ms. Wu noted that the team has been working to manage costs while ensuring the final product delivers a "wow" effect. From its positioning, the model will sit firmly in the supercar category.
