Sales of Great Wall Motor Company Limited (short for GWM), one of leading automakers in China, were reportedly 68,976 units in July this year, increasing by 45.38% year on year, which include 60,002 units of SUVs with a yearly rise of 50.26%. And total sales have been 519,228 units with a year-on-year increase of 12.2% from January to July.
Aug. 10 , 2016Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - Compared to the previous two years, sales of Chinese SUVs over the first half of this year have begun to lag behind. A number of models, including the Changan CS75, BAIC Huansu S3, Zotye T600, JAC Refine S3 and Changan CS35, have all seen their monthly sales volumes fall. Only four own brand models managed to make the top ten individual model sales charts in April, compared to a high of eight from the previous year. That number has fallen even further in May and June, when only three of the ten best-selling SUVs in the country were domestic own brand models. Chinese manufacturers’ market share in the SUV segment has also been slipping.

Own brands have been able to overcome difficulties in the sedan segments by shifting their focus towards the SUV and MPV segments, which in turn has allowed them to recover and compete with joint venture manufacturers for market share. Chinese own brands seemed to had finally come into their own stride with the explosion of popularity of Chinese SUV models.

Only one Korean SUV model, Beijing Hyundai’s New Tucson, managed to sell over 10,000 units in April, as shown by China Passenger Car Association statistics compiled by Gasgoo.com (Chinese). Other Korean SUVs, including the ix25, KX5, Sportage-R, ix35 and KX3, were far outside of the top 20 best-selling SUV models of the month.
Jun. 16 , 2016Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - Statistics compiled by Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reveal that 2.57 million SUVs were sold in China from January to April. That figure represents year-on-year growth of 46.2%. SUVs made up 36.0% of all vehicles sold in China over the first four months of this year, up 26.7% year-on-year. As sedan sales continue to fall and minivan sales have only been growing slightly, SUVs continue to be the major driver for sales growth in the Chinese automotive market.The Great Wall Haval H6 was the best-selling Chinese SUV from January to April, followed by the SAIC-GM-Wuling Baojun 560, GAC Trumpchi GS4,VW Tiguan, Changan CS75, Buick Envision, JAC Refine S3, Changan CS35, Honda CR-V and Brilliance Zhonghua V3. Seven of those models were made by domestic own brand manufacturers.
