Car and City: February 2022 registrations of NIO models
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In February 2022, NIO's new vehicle registrations stood at 5,664 units, sliding 1.3% from the previous year, while also tumbling 44.4% from the previous month, according to the data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).
Regarding Feb. registrations of locally-made new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs), NIO ranked 12th among all auto brands in China, following its startup rivals Li Auto (6th), HOZON Auto (10th), and XPeng (11th).
The ES6 accounted for 55% of NIO's vehicle registrations in February. Last month, the startup's biggest sales contributor recorded a 43.6% plunge month-over-month, while still scored a 36.8% growth year-over-year. Among homemade NEPV models in China, the ES6 ranked 21th by Feb. registrations, dropping 4 spots compared to the month-ago period.
In February, Shanghai and Hangzhou were the only two cities in China recording an ES6 registration volume of over 200 units. Beijing and Guangzhou ranked 4th and 10th respectively. The other first-tier city, Shenzhen, was not included on the top 10 cities list.
The monthly registrations of the EC6 reached 1,613 units, dwindling 23.6% from a year earlier, while also tumbling 46% compared to January 2022. It was the second time for the EC6 to post monthly registrations below 2,000 units in the past five months.
With regard to Feb. registrations of the EC6, the four first-tier cities—Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Beijing—were all among the top 10 cities. Besides, five cities cracking the top 10 rankings were from Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, including the runner-up Hangzhou and the second runner-up Suzhou.
The ES8's Feb. registrations also represented downward movement year-on-year and month-on-month. Among the ES8s registered last month, 646 and 277 were registered by private and business users respectively.
Last month, there were only four cities in China with over 50 ES8s registered, three of which were first-tier ones, namely, Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.
Moreover, NIO also had 8 and 4 ET7s registered in Shanghai and Beijing in February respectively.
