Gasgoo New Car: IM LS6 is an all-rounder in electric SUV segment priced between 200,000 yuan and 300,000 yuan
Hello, everyone! Today, I'm here to introduce you a hotter-selling model in the Chinese electric vehicle market, the IM LS6, the third production model under IM Motors, a premium electric vehicle brand co-held by SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group, and Zhangjiang High-Tech.
The IM LS6 officially hit the market on October 12, positioning itself as a mid-sized pure electric SUV with a price range of 229,900 yuan to 291,900 yuan. In November, the IM LS6 recorded deliveries of 8,158 units, securing the top spot among China’s mid-to-large all-electric SUV models by monthly sales.
Now, let's delve into what makes the IM LS6 stand out in the fiercely competitive market of new energy SUVs priced between 200,000 yuan and 300,000 yuan.
First and foremost, it boasts formidable power and outstanding endurance. The IM LS6 is the first product from IM Motors to feature the cutting-edge 800V dual silicon carbide platform, operating at an impressive 875V, often referred to as the "quasi-900V" platform. The front and rear axles each house high-temperature-resistant, high-pressure-resistant, and highly efficient silicon carbide power modules from Infineon and Danfoss, respectively. This innovative design also supports higher working power for electric motors or appliances like air conditioning compressors, further enhancing the overall performance of the vehicle.
Equipped with this advanced electric drive system, the dual-motor version of the LS6 crafted on the quasi-900V platform can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.48 seconds, reach a top speed of 252 km/h, and deliver a combined maximum power of 579 kW with a peak torque of 800 Nm. Charging the battery’s capacity from 30% to 80% takes only 14 minutes, providing a range of 200 km in just 5 minutes, 350 km in 10 minutes, and an impressive 500 km in 15 minutes.
Additionally, the IM LS6 also offers a "quasi-500V" platform version with a maximum operating voltage of 458V and a range of 680 km.
In the realm of intelligent driving, all versions of the IM LS6 come equipped with the Orin X high-performance chip and ultra-long-range, high-precision LiDAR. What's more, the IM LS6 introduces the innovative "One-Key AI Chauffeur," featuring functions like one-key edge parking, one-key lane tracking, and one-key escape, addressing pain points in urban commuting scenarios.
During our recent test drive event, Gasgoo will take you through the IM LS6's performance in terms of power and handling.
On the track, the impact and exhilaration of the IM LS6's acceleration speak for themselves. However, what caught my attention even more was the braking performance after such acceleration. The model employs Continental's integrated all-aluminum four-piston fixed caliper and One-box fully decoupled electronic braking system, along with Brembo’s brake discs. When I applied the emergency brakes at around 100-110 km/h, the IM LS6 demonstrated exceptional reliability, with no noticeable nosedive, ensuring a stable and secure stop. In sudden lane changes and continuous slalom maneuvers, the vehicle showed minimal sway, and the body's lateral tilt, as observed from the outside, remained modest, thanks to the precise steering system.
Moving on to the driving experience area, the IM LS6, featuring a front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension combination, saw its chassis excel in shock absorption, particularly evident during the speed bump tests, whether it's coaxial or cross-shaped. The longitudinal sway of the vehicle is minimal, and the body quickly returns to a stable state without unnecessary vibrations.
Embark on a thrilling journey with me as we explore the exciting features of the IM LS6 on the roller obstacles. The 360-degree transparent chassis provides a clear view of the vehicle's state. With a steady throttle, the LS6 effortlessly maneuvers through the obstacle course, showcasing its remarkable agility.
As we approach the cross-axis challenge, the LS6 impresses with its four-wheel-drive system that adopts two permanent magnet synchronous motors and the eTAC edge torque control technology. This dynamic system effectively controls side-slipping, ensuring stability throughout the course. The LS6's power output is quite linear, offering controlled acceleration through the cross-axis, allowing continuous power output to the gripping wheels.
Now, we are experiencing the model’s intelligent cockpit features in various scenarios at a meticulously prepared maze. Explore the LS6's rain-night mode, simulating extreme conditions in heavy rain, providing a practical demonstration of the blind-spot solution utilizing smart driving cameras. The system proves useful in addressing common blind-spot challenges.
In addition, we delve into the LS6's urban smart driving perception capabilities, featuring solutions for scenarios like mirror-like dead-end turns, reverse parking, side parking, and the one-key parking and lane-tracking functions. The one-key edge parking feature allows the vehicle to snugly park against curbs or walls after side parking.
Let's shift gears and talk about the on-road driving experience. During our city drive, with kinetic energy recovery disabled and in standard mode, the LS6 exhibits a responsive and intuitive feel, delivering a smooth release of power with gentle throttle input. The steering maintains a good sense of follow-through, providing excellent handling. The LS6's suspension system is tuned for flexibility, effectively handling speed bumps and uneven road surfaces with minimal vibration and a quick return to a stable state.
Inside, the LS6 boasts a half-spoke steering wheel similar to the LS7, adding a futuristic touch. However, adapting to this steering wheel may take some time, especially during sharp turns or reverse maneuvers.
In terms of seating, the LS6 features the intriguingly named "POPO Sofa Cloud Sensation Seats," inspired by Italian Bubble sofas. The structured design of the LS6's seats provides good back support, and with a seat cushion length of 517mm for all seats and a 50mm extendable thigh support for the driver, comfort is prioritized.
While the rear window visibility is limited due to the vehicle's design, the rear-view blind-spot system, accessible by rolling the scroll button on the steering wheel, offers a much clearer view than the window alone.
The LS6's cabin infotainment system retains the LS7's large auto-lifting screen, featuring a clear and straightforward layout of various applications. Most daily functions can be operated on the center console screen. However, it's worth noting that the screen may heat up in high temperatures.
Finally, let's take a brief look at the LS6's exterior. The sleek and smooth body exudes warmth and beauty, resembling a carefully carved jade stone. The LiDAR unit, though still positioned on the roof, integrates seamlessly, enhancing the overall aesthetics. The front bumper features a porous design to reduce aerodynamic drag, showcasing the LS6's sporty SUV stance. The model comes standard with 20-inch wheels, which can be upgraded to 21 inch, and the different tire widths (front 235mm, rear 265mm) contribute to its distinctive look.
The LS6 does stand out as a lively option with great appeal to young couples or young families without children, positioning itself against models like the Tesla Model Y and the XPeng G6. Join us as we continue to unravel exciting features of more eye-catching car models.
