China’s new energy PV sales in March doubled year on year to 110,958 units, CPCA

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China's new energy passenger vehicle (PV) sales reached 110,958 units in March, surging 99% compared with the same period a year ago, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

For the first quarter of the year, a total of 252,916 new energy PVs were sold in this country, a splendid year-on-year growth of 116%.

In March, the sales of all-electric PVs amounted to 89,070 units, soaring 118% year on year and 131% month on month. The car sector saw its March sales leapt 71% over the previous year to 62,345 units, accounting for 70% of total pure electric PV sales. The MPV and SUV sectors witnessed their sales tremendously shot up 597% and 479% from the year-ago period to 1,618 units and 25,107 units.

Plug-in hybrid PV sales in March were increased 48% to 21,888 units. Of that, the car and SUV sales, accounting for 51% and 46% respectively, grew 95% and 12% over a year ago to 11,199 units and 10,094 units.

Speaking of specific segments for all-electric PV, the A-segment, with 49,049 vehicles sold in March, got a remarkable yea-on-year increase of 392%. Besides, the sales of the A00 and A0 segments reached 23,043 units and 15,571 units last month, falling 18% and skyrocketing 461% from the previous year.

In plug-in hybrid PV area, the A segment occupied a half of share, while its Mar. sales slid 22% over a year earlier. The sales of the B and C segments were 8,880 units and 2,106 units, magnificently rising 1382% and 639% respectively.

Among the top 10 new energy PV models by retail sales in March, BAIC EU Series was crowned the champion with a huge growth of 9308%. Another model from BAIC BJEV is the EC Series, ranking 7th with a year-on-year decline of 54.9%. The Beijing-based NEV maker just announced a 109.7% year-on-year growth with 17,690 vehicles sold last month. Moreover, the second to fourth places were all held by BYD's models, namely, the BYD Yuan EV, the BYD e5 and the BYD Tang DM.

Regarding the retail sales from January to March, BYD took three of the first four places. The BAIC EU Series moved up to the runner-up position with its Q1 sales zooming up 4699.8%. Besides, Great Wall Motor's ORA R1 ranked ninth with a year-to-date sales volume of 7,588 units.
