FAW-VW Qingdao plant to Build Bora BEV

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The FAW-VW’s Production Base in Qingdao in east China officially started in construction in July 2015. The first phase of the project has invested about RMB 10 billion and it will produce 300,000 vehicles per year for the production of SUVs and new sedans. Recently, insiders from FAW-VW revealed that after the introduction of domestic-made pure electric Golf, FAW-VW also plans to launch a pure electric model based on Bora. According to the source, the FAW-VW Qingdao plant currently puts Bora BEV (Bora Electric) stamping die design out to tender, which indicates that the new car is expected to be put into production at the forthcoming Qingdao plant.

It is learned that the first phase of FAW-Volkswagen Qingdao plant will be completed and put into production in March next year. In the recently announced tender information, Bora BEV (Bora electric) will be the first mass-produced model.

In August this year, FAW-VW Qingdao factory’s first vehicle has formally rolled off Qingdao Jimo assembly plant’s production line, but we cannot tell the vehicle type under the heavy camouflage.

At present, the civil engineering of the first phase is basically in completion. The stamping workshop, the vehicle body workshop, the painting workshop and the assembly workshop have been completed and have entered the trial production phase. The project is expected to start production in March 2018. By then, the FAW-VW east China Base will have the capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles per year.

In addition, in the previously exposed FAW-VW product planning, the new generation of Bora is expected to go on sale in September next year and the new model will be produced based on FAW-VW MQB platform. As a derivation, Bora electric version will also use this platform, but may be slightly later than the new Bora’s launching time.
